Since a young age, Aja has tested the waters of many genres, finding herself singing mostly Jazz after hearing the Sarah Vaughan version of "Someone to Watch over Me". After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance, Aja went on to perform with the Minnesota Opera, Skylark Opera, Penumbra Theatre and the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. After a time, Aja rekindled her love of Jazz, R&B, Funk and Motown, and started performing as a freelance vocalist throughout the Twin Cities. In 2018, due to her love of all things Sarah Vaughan, she studied the recordings of Sarah down to each note, slide, and placement of vibrato to construct a Sarah Vaughan Tribute show. Aja recently recorded with Kashimana Ahua on her album "Phantom Cries", and has performed with many of the Twin Cities' best jazz musicians as well as many well-known musicians from around the country - like trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, drummer Francisco Mela, Wess Anderson, James Rocco, Arne Fogel, Jay Epstein, Doctor Mambo's Combo, Margie Cox and the Minnesota Orchestra. In addition to being a performer, Aja is also a voice instructor and has been a vocal jazz clinician for several years.
